In the Telangana Legislative Council elections, a BJP-backed candidate, Malka Komaraiah, won the Teachers’ constituency. Independent candidate Sripal Reddy Pingili also emerged victorious in a separate Teachers’ seat. The elections saw over 70% voter turnout and were noted for extensive campaigning by both BJP and Congress leaders.
In a recent Telangana Legislative Council election, a BJP-supported candidate, Malka Komaraiah, won the seat for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teachers’ constituency. Alongside him, independent candidate Sripal Reddy Pingili secured victory in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency. Elections for these and the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency were held on February 27 using a preferential voting system with paper ballots.
The vote counting process was carried out on March 4, 2025, where results from the two Teachers’ constituencies were announced, while the Graduates’ constituency results remained pending. Over 70% of the 2,50,328 eligible voters participated in the Graduates’ constituency election, where 56 candidates contested. The BJP nominated candidates for all three seats, while Congress fielded a candidate only for the Graduates’ constituency, and the BRS did not participate in the election.
Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar praised Komaraiah’s win as significant, attributing it to the trust teachers have in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Other BJP officials, including G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, actively campaigned for their candidates. Meanwhile, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and state Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud also supported their party’s candidate during the campaign.
Malka Komaraiah’s victory as a BJP candidate in Telangana reflects a significant achievement for the party in the education sector. The participation of a high percentage of voters in the Graduates’ constituency underscores the election’s importance. The contrasting positioning of political parties in the election highlights the competitive dynamic between BJP, Congress, and BRS in Telangana’s political landscape.
