India Missing from TIME’s Most Influential Leaders List 2025

Time Magazine’s 2025 Most Influential People list features global figures such as Donald Trump and Elon Musk but lacks Indian representation. Reshma Kewalramani, CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals and an Indian immigrant, stands out in the ‘Leaders’ category. Notable others include UK PM Keir Starmer and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
Time Magazine’s 2025 list of the 100 Most Influential People includes major figures like US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, but notably, this year lacks representation from India. In contrast, the previous year saw Indian celebrities like actress Alia Bhatt and wrestler Sakshi Malik featured prominently.
The magazine organizes its list into categories such as ‘Leaders’, ‘Icons’, and ‘Titans’. Among the ‘Leaders’ this year, Reshma Kewalramani is highlighted. She is of Indian origin and serves as CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, becoming the first woman to lead a large public US biotechnology firm after immigrating from India at age 11.
In a profile by Jason Kelly, it is noted that “Reshma sat on my board at Ginkgo Bioworks, and her insights proved invaluable: she knows how to effectively push the limits of science while navigating the drug-approval process.” Furthermore, under her leadership, Vertex achieved the FDA approval for a CRISPR-based treatment for sickle cell disease, showcasing her innovative impact on medicine.
Other notable names in the ‘Leaders’ category include UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, and US President JD Vance. These leaders reflect a range of influence across various sectors on the global stage.
This year’s Time Magazine list highlights significant global figures, yet marks a notable absence of Indian representation, contrasting last year’s inclusion of Bollywood and sports stars. Reshma Kewalramani, however, does signify Indian leadership in the biotechnology sector, underlining the importance of innovation in healthcare. The presence of global leaders such as Trump and Yunus illustrates diverse influence in contemporary affairs.
