Launch of One Piece-Themed Shinkansen Trains on Sanyo Line in Japan

West Japan Railway launched the One Piece-themed Shinkansen train, Setouchi Blue, on April 12, 2025, to celebrate the Sanyo Shinkansen line’s 50th anniversary. Two more trains, themed around Tony Tony Chopper and Monkey D Luffy, will debut on May 28 and July 2, 2025, respectively. The trains will connect major cities in western Japan and provide a unique travel experience for fans.

West Japan Railway introduced a One Piece-themed Shinkansen train named Setouchi Blue on April 12, 2025, celebrating the Sanyo Shinkansen line’s 50th anniversary. This train runs between Hakata and Shin-Osaka, featuring eight cars with striking blue exteriors and highlighting beloved characters from the popular anime, including Monkey D Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates.

The One Piece Shinkansen project will include three distinct trains, with one currently operational. The second train, named after Tony Tony Chopper, will launch on May 28, 2025, showcasing a color palette of white, pink, and blue. The third train, inspired by Monkey D Luffy, is set to debut on July 2, 2025, featuring a white, gold, and red scheme reminiscent of Luffy’s straw hat.

Travelers can expect immersive pirate-themed interiors and seating on these trains, with merchandise available at selected stations. The One Piece Shinkansen will operate along the Sanyo Shinkansen line, connecting cities like Osaka, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Kobe, Himeji, and Okayama, stopping at all stations as part of the Kodama service.

Rides on the One Piece Shinkansen are included with the JR Pass; however, additional fees apply for rides on Mizuho or Nozomi services.
