Delhi and surrounding areas face a dust storm after severe heat, impacting safety and causing possible crop damage. Authorities advise caution and staying indoors. Light rain has provided relief after extreme temperatures.

Following a prolonged heatwave, Delhi and surrounding regions have experienced a significant change in weather. This evening, strong winds stirred up a dust storm across various areas in Delhi, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh. The weather department has forecasted that the effects of the dust storm would linger until 9 PM.

Authorities have issued warnings regarding potential damage to crops and vulnerable structures, advising the public to remain indoors and avoid traveling if feasible. Safety precautions include staying away from trees, avoiding resting on concrete surfaces, unplugging electrical devices, and evacuating from water bodies.

Videos circulating on social media captured the intense dust storm in action, showcasing winds lifting dust and debris, which obscured visibility for vehicles and buildings. In Gurgaon, the impact was particularly severe, prompting safety alerts.

Reports confirmed that strong winds caused tree branches to fall in multiple areas of Delhi. Incidents were noted at Lodhi Garden where sizable branches were uprooted and at Delhi Gate where a tree collapsed onto a parked motorcycle.

In a welcome change, some light rainfall was observed on Friday, which helped moderate the extreme temperatures, providing relief after a heatwave persisted for several days. The previous Monday marked the season’s first peak temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, and Wednesday recorded the warmest overnight temperature in three years, reaching a minimum of 25.9 degrees Celsius.

In summary, after a relentless heatwave, a dust storm has struck Delhi and nearby regions, bringing along safety hazards and disruptions. Residents are advised to adhere to official warnings and stay safe during this adverse weather event. The recent light drizzle provides some respite from the previous high temperatures.
