Amit Shah reaffirmed K Annamalai’s position as Tamil Nadu BJP president, dismissing rumors of his removal. Annamalai, credited with increasing the party’s visibility, is supported for future responsibilities in the national framework. AIADMK’s insistence on Annamalai’s ouster was noted as a potential hurdle in the renewed alliance, but Shah’s praise of Annamalai indicates the BJP’s commitment to maintaining its leadership structure.

During a press briefing in Chennai, Union Home Minister Amit Shah dismissed speculation about K Annamalai’s removal as Tamil Nadu BJP president, asserting that Mr. Annamalai remains in his position. Shah emphasized this while announcing the renewal of the AIADMK-BJP alliance, stating, “This is not true at all. Mr. Annamalai is the state president even today,” while gesturing to Annamalai seated beside him.

In response to inquiries on whether Annamalai would take on central responsibilities, Shah remarked, “Leave a few things to our party as well. Don’t worry about my party so much, we will run it well.” This comment came as the BJP received only one nomination for state president from Tirunelveli MLA Nainar Nagendran, which was proposed by Annamalai and other senior leaders.

Amit Shah praised Annamalai’s contributions, noting their significance in the party’s strategy. He stated that Annamalai had played a vital role in promoting PM Modi’s policies to the public and that his organizational skills would be essential for the party nationally. Despite the BJP’s limited electoral success in Tamil Nadu since Annamalai’s appointment, he has significantly increased the party’s visibility in the region.

Reports suggested AIADMK’s demand for Annamalai’s removal was a precondition for renewing the alliance due to concerns he was undermining the party’s dominance in the coalition, alongside criticism of AIADMK leaders. This request arose during a meeting between Palaniswami and Shah in New Delhi last month.

However, Amit Shah’s firm support for K Annamalai highlights the BJP’s commitment to maintaining their leadership structure and the ongoing partnership with AIADMK, despite underlying tensions within the coalition.

In summary, Amit Shah has strongly supported K Annamalai’s leadership within the Tamil Nadu BJP, countering rumors of his removal and affirming his role in the party. Annamalai’s contributions have been acknowledged as invaluable, though the BJP’s electoral performance has remained modest. The need for coalition stability has surfaced, with AIADMK’s requests for leadership changes underpinning the dynamics of their alliance. Shah’s statements suggest a focus on party cohesion and strategic visibility in Tamil Nadu.
