A couple faced harassment and assault from five men outside a park in Bengaluru, as captured on video. The couple was on a scooter when they were approached by the assailants, who questioned the woman, dressed in a burqa, about her family’s knowledge of her whereabouts and criticized both her and her companion for their faith differences. The group of men also threatened the woman and accused her of lacking shame for sitting with a man.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Girish, stated that a complaint was filed by the woman, leading to the registration of a case and an ongoing investigation. Although he initially claimed the incident was not violent, additional footage revealed a different narrative, showing the assailants surrounding and striking the man with a wooden log. Following the complaint, five suspects, including a juvenile, were arrested.
Deputy Commissioner Girish confirmed, “We have received a complaint from the woman based on which we have registered a case. We have arrested four people including a juvenile,” as he elaborated on the investigation. In response to this incident, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge emphasized the state’s stance against moral policing, asserting, “This is not Bihar or Uttar Pradesh or Madhya Pradesh. Karnataka is a progressive state.”
