Zelensky Accuses Russia of Involving China in Ukraine Conflict

Ukrainian President Zelensky accused Russia of dragging China into the Ukraine war, calling it a major mistake. He revealed evidence of over 150 Chinese nationals allegedly fighting for Russia. China rejected these claims, urging its citizens to avoid conflict involvement. Zelensky previously criticized North Korea’s military support to Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of attempting to involve China in the Ukraine war, labeling this action as “the second biggest mistake” made by President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky stated, “This is the second mistake for Russia. The first was North Korea. They drag other countries into war,” emphasizing concerns over Russia’s military alliances.
Zelensky claimed to possess information regarding the recruitment of over 150 Chinese nationals by Moscow, purportedly fighting in Ukraine. He stated, “The ‘Chinese’ issue is serious. There are 155 people with names and passport details who are fighting against Ukrainians on the territory of Ukraine,” highlighting the gravity of the situation.
The Ukrainian leader previously released a video showing one of two captured Chinese citizens in military attire, bound and allegedly imitating combat sounds in Mandarin. Details revealed that Chinese identification cards and contracts for Russian military service were also located with the individuals.
In response, the Chinese government dismissed Zelensky’s assertions, labeling them as “absolutely groundless.” A spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry reiterated that the government advises its citizens to avoid involvement in armed conflicts, stating, “The Chinese government has always asked its citizens to stay away from areas of armed conflict.”
Zelensky had earlier raised concerns over North Korea’s involvement, indicating that the country had sent over 10,000 soldiers to support Russian forces in the prior year, following an attack on western Kursk, Ukraine’s territory.
In summary, President Zelensky has highlighted concerns over Russian actions that he believes could entangle China in the Ukraine conflict. While he discusses the recruitment of Chinese nationals for military purposes, China firmly denies these claims, urging its citizens to refrain from conflict involvement. The situation remains complex, with international implications, particularly involving previous allegations of North Korea’s military support for Russia.
