Ferreira’s admission was recorded in the Pretoria High Court, where he confessed to the heinous actions committed against the newborn.

Ferreira expressed that he became furious when the baby cried for food, leading him to physically assault her. He stated, “I grabbed the baby hard at the back of her neck and hit her buttocks repeatedly,” explaining his violent actions by claiming he wanted to “give her something to cry about.” This brutal treatment occurred while Brand was away.

Upon returning home, Brand discovered her baby critically injured. Ferreira acknowledged that he tried to hide the severity of the injuries from her, which delayed the medical attention the child urgently needed. Unfortunately, the infant succumbed to her head injuries a day later after being hospitalized.

Although Ferreira admitted to being under the influence of methamphetamine at the time, he asserted that his drug use did not diminish his understanding of the gravity of his actions. He stated, “I knew that my actions were wrong and that the baby could die, yet I continued.” Ferreira described his assault as a “cruel and gruesome attack” on a defenseless child, and he accepted full responsibility for his conduct.

Ferreira is scheduled to be sentenced next week, facing the consequences of his appalling actions that led to the death of an innocent infant.
