South African Singer Travis Alexander Joins Tabernacle Choir for Global Conference

Travis Alexander from Johannesburg, South Africa, joins the Tabernacle Choir for the April 2025 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Global Participant. He has a rich choral background and highlights the choir as a leading ensemble. His family supports him, while he embraces the role of representing South Africa in this prestigious event.

Travis Alexander, an accountant from Johannesburg, South Africa, will join the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square as a Global Participant during the April 2025 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He underwent a rigorous audition that included vocal exercises and sight reading before being selected among the 11 global participants.

Music has always been a central theme in Travis’s life. He began singing in church choirs at age four and later performed with his university’s flagship choir, which took him to notable global events like the World Choral Olympics in Latvia and the Global Choral Symposium in Spain.

In Salt Lake City, Travis enjoyed connecting with fellow participants from around the globe. He expressed his appreciation for a history lesson about the choir from former conductor Craig Jessop, noting the choir’s rich tradition spanning over 170 years, which deepened his understanding of its cultural significance.

Back home, his family, including his supportive wife Kayla and two children, cheer him on. Travis expressed gratitude for their encouragement, stating, “I think they are so proud.” He views the Tabernacle Choir as a leading ensemble, highlighting its collective harmony, stating, “It is as if one instrument.”

He has also reflected on his role as a missionary while participating, acknowledging the responsibility of representing his country and expressing pride in being South African. The Tabernacle Choir, noted for being one of the oldest and largest choirs worldwide, has performed in over 28 countries and sold millions of recordings.

With the April General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints scheduled for April 5-6, 2025, the event will be accessible online, via television and radio, and streamed on the Church’s main channels.

Travis Alexander’s journey reflects his lifelong passion for music and his pride in representing South Africa at a prestigious choir. His participation in the Tabernacle Choir will not only fulfill a personal dream but also contribute to the cultural exchange within the global community.
