A 36-year-old technology professional in Bengaluru has been accused of murdering his wife, Gauri Anil Sambekar, aged 32, dismembering her body, and hiding it in a suitcase before fleeing to Pune, where he attempted suicide. The incident occurred in Doddakannahalli, Bengaluru, where the couple had resided for the past year after relocating from Maharashtra.

The gruesome discovery was made on a Thursday, when Gauri’s dismembered body was found inside a suitcase in their home. Initial forensic examinations revealed that she had suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck and abdomen, with her remains cut into eight to ten pieces.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Sarah Fathima, the couple had recently moved to Bengaluru from Maharashtra, and the homeowner alerted authorities after discovering Gauri’s body. Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, the husband, had been working from home and contacted Gauri’s parents, confessing over the phone, which prompted them to notify the Maharashtra police who then informed officials in Karnataka.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand indicated that ongoing matrimonial discord seemed to be the motive for the murder. After the crime, Rakesh fled the state and was apprehended in Pune through digital surveillance and call records. He was found unconscious after ingesting poison and is currently hospitalized, awaiting recovery before returning to Bengaluru for legal proceedings.

This tragic incident highlights severe issues related to domestic disputes that can escalate to violence. The prompt action by the victim’s parents and the police collaboration between Maharashtra and Karnataka were crucial in apprehending the suspect. Mental health resources have been shared for those in need, underscoring the importance of seeking help in strained relationships.
