Ukraine-US Talks in Saudi Arabia: Focus on Ceasefire Parameters

Upcoming talks between Ukraine and the US in Saudi Arabia will focus on ceasefire parameters, characterized as a technical round. The meeting aims to clarify operational details of previously agreed-upon decisions without political leadership present. The White House has scheduled this for 23 March.
Ukraine’s upcoming meeting with the United States in Saudi Arabia will focus on establishing parameters for various ceasefire proposals currently under discussion, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi emphasized that this event is characterized as a technical round rather than a political negotiation. The aim is to address specific implementation details of prior political agreements between the two nations.
Tykhyi elaborated that discussions will prioritize operational aspects, including management and monitoring of the ceasefire initiatives. The talks will involve technical experts from both Ukrainian and American delegations who will clarify how the proposed ceasefire will function.
Despite speculation about American and Russian communications during these talks, Tykhyi stated that it remains the choice of those parties. Ukraine is preparing for these discussions strictly as a bilateral engagement with the US. Notably, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha will not attend, as this meeting does not lie within a political framework and will ensure a military aspect.
Contextualizing the discussions, Keith Kellogg commented that the US might facilitate separate discussions in different rooms for Ukrainian and Russian representatives, keeping the American delegation involved as intermediaries. The White House has confirmed that new peace talks regarding Ukraine are set for 23 March in Saudi Arabia.
The Ukraine-US talks in Saudi Arabia are aimed at determining the parameters for ceasefire proposals, focusing on technical and operational details rather than political issues. The Ukrainian delegation will prepare for a bilateral meeting without the presence of its Foreign Minister while considering logistical arrangements for Russian participation.
