Ushakov revealed that he had communicated with U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz about the talks. Karasin is recognized for his involvement in negotiating ceasefire agreements in 2015 between Ukraine and separatist forces, with France and Germany mediating during that time. Beseda, on the other hand, had a controversial background; after facing setbacks related to faulty intelligence before the war, he was temporarily removed from favor by Putin.

Ushakov emphasized the expertise of the negotiators, stating, “These are truly experienced negotiators who are well-versed in international issues.” Additionally, Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Trump’s envoy, initially indicated that talks would occur in Jeddah on Sunday, marking a significant step in diplomatic relations regarding the conflict.
