Uttar Pradesh Professor Arrested for Sexual Abuse and Blackmailing Students

In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a Geography professor, Rajnish Kumar, was arrested after 72 hours evading authorities. Accused of sexually abusing his students, Kumar allegedly recorded 59 videos of these incidents and used them to blackmail victims into silence and to perform further sexual acts. He has been hiding since the accusations surfaced, which included disturbing footage provided to law enforcement via a USB drive.
As per police, Kumar alleged ignorance regarding the exact number of women he assaulted, stating that his recording began inadvertently after a web camera captured an incident years ago. This reveals a potential pattern of abuse affecting many women over the years. Additionally, he reportedly accepted bribes from students and parents to grant better grades and job placements, further leveraging his position to extract sexual favors.
Kumar disclosed to police that an early consensual sexual encounter with a student in 2009 provided him the idea to record intimate encounters, leading to the exploitation of numerous students. Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, Superintendent of Police in Hathras, mentioned that he had installed software specifically designed for documenting his heinous acts.
Rajnish Kumar was first married in 1996; however, the current status of that marriage remains unclear, and they did not have children. Beginning his teaching career at Bagla College in 2001, he rose to the position of Chief Proctor last year. His transgressions reportedly started in 2008, with over 65 videos, including those shared on pornographic sites, retrieved from his mobile device.
The arrest of Rajnish Kumar highlights severe allegations of sexual abuse and blackmail within the educational context. His methods of exploitation included filming his assaults and using that material for manipulation. The case raises significant concerns regarding student safety and the verification of faculty conduct in educational institutions.
