On March 20, 2023, officials from Kyrgyzstan, including Almaz Saliev, Chairman of the State Customs Service, and Elchibek Dzhantaev, the Presidential Representative in the Osh region, discussed the potential opening of the Intymak border checkpoint with Uzbekistan. The meeting emphasized the need to enhance infrastructure at the Intymak checkpoint, proposing the addition of temporary storage areas and an electronic queue system.
The officials reached an agreement to allocate land for these infrastructure improvements. They also explored alternative routes between the Irkeshtam and Intymak checkpoints, aiming to shorten travel distance and time while alleviating congestion on the Irkeshtam-Osh road and Dostuk border crossing.
Additionally, Saliev recognized the efforts of the Batken Customs office personnel, expressing gratitude for their service in a region of strategic importance. To bolster operational effectiveness, he presented the customs team with a new Nissan service minibus.
The discussions regarding the Intymak checkpoint underscore Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to improving cross-border relations with Uzbekistan through enhanced infrastructure and reduced travel congestion.
