A 17-year-old boy was assaulted by a police officer in Surat after unintentionally cycling into a street during a PM convoy rehearsal. The incident, captured on video and shared widely, resulted in public outrage. In Surat, a 17-year-old boy was assaulted by police sub-inspector B S Gadhvi for inadvertently cycling into a street designated for the rehearsal of Prime Minister Modi’s convoy. This incident, which occurred at Ratan Chowk, was captured on video and later went viral, leading to public outrage.

The video shows the boy cycling alongside the convoy vehicles before being confronted by Gadhvi, who physically assaulted him by slapping him and pulling his hair. A relative of the minor recounted their concern when he failed to return home for hours, stating, “He returned at 9:30 pm, crying, and said he did not know why he was beaten up.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police Amita Vanani addressed the incident, deeming Gadhvi’s actions as “totally inappropriate and regretted.” Consequently, Gadhvi has been reassigned to a control room position in light of the incident. Additionally, it has been reported that his salary increment is on hold for one year due to the situation.

The aggressive response by police towards a minor cycling during a high-security rehearsal for the Prime Minister’s convoy has sparked significant backlash. The Deputy Commissioner’s condemnation of the officer’s actions and the immediate disciplinary measures taken highlight the severity of the incident. Future protocols for engaging with young individuals in similar situations should be revisited to prevent such occurrences.
