Ranya Rao’s Gold Smuggling Case: Details and Confession Revealed

Kannada actor Ranya Rao admitted to possessing 17 gold bars during her arrest at Bengaluru airport. She shared details of her travels and family background, including her ties to a senior police officer. Ranya Rao, a Kannada actress and stepdaughter of a senior IPS officer, confessed to having “17 gold bars” found on her during a recent arrest at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. This confession was made to revenue officials, as reported by NDTV. She disclosed details of her extensive international travel, including trips to the Middle East, Dubai, and several Western countries.

In her statement, Rao noted that she was fatigued from lack of rest, having reportedly completed 27 trips to Dubai in the previous year. She also mentioned her family background, identifying her father, KS Hegdesh, as a real estate businessman, and her husband, Jatin Hukkeri, an architect residing in Bengaluru. Her stepfather is Ramachandra Rao, the Director-General of Police for Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation.

Since her arrest, which involved the seizure of 14 kg of gold valued at Rs 14.56 crore, Rao has expressed her willingness to cooperate with investigators while remaining in judicial custody until her next court appearance. She emphasized that her confession was voluntary, claiming no coercion during the process. Additionally, she noted that food was offered to her, which she declined due to lack of hunger.

Following her arrest, stepfather Ramachandra Rao publicly denied any connection to the crime and expressed his shock and devastation regarding these events. The case represents one of the largest gold seizures documented in recent times.
