President Trump nominates former attorney Emil Bove for the US Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit. Bove’s confirmation is expected to be contentious, as Democrats may challenge his controversial actions at the DOJ. Bove has been influential in Trump’s immigration policies and has a history of significant initiatives within the Justice Department.

President Trump has put forward Emil Bove’s name for a federal appeals court position. Bove, a former personal attorney and current Justice Department official, is nominated for a seat on the US Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit. In his announcement on social media, Trump described Bove as “smart, tough, and respected by everyone,” promising he will enhance justice and uphold the law.

This nomination suggests a potentially heated confirmation process in Congress, particularly since Democrats may question Bove about his role in some of the more divisive decisions made during Trump’s presidency. Bove was crucial to implementing controversial policies, notably during his initial weeks at the DOJ when he issued directives impacting local officials opposing federal immigration policies.

Bove’s actions included attempting to influence New York prosecutors regarding corruption charges against Mayor Eric Adams, leading to the resignation of multiple officials. His tenure saw the firing of eight senior FBI executives, as well.

Currently serving as deputy to Todd Blanche, Bove has been integral to enforcing Trump’s immigration policies and has a prominent role in the newly formed Weaponization Working Group, focusing on probes into former prosecutors and FBI agents. Blanche praised Bove on social media, commending his integrity and legal expertise.

Bove is part of a wave of Trump’s former personal lawyers receiving prominent government positions, alongside others like John Sauer and Kash Patel. Notably, Bove defended Trump in certain criminal cases during his time as attorney, although those cases were ultimately dismissed following Trump’s reelection. When asked for comment, Bove declined to respond.
