David Lammy, UK foreign secretary, will join talks in Paris with U.S. envoys about the Ukraine war and Iran’s nuclear program. Discussions aim to address European concerns over Russia and explore a new nuclear deal with Iran, amidst Trump’s military threats. The collaboration between the U.S. and European leaders is increasingly urgent as tensions rise.

David Lammy, the UK foreign secretary, is set to attend discussions in Paris regarding the war in Ukraine and Iran, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. envoy Marco Rubio, among others. These talks come amidst ongoing U.S. efforts to establish a ceasefire in Ukraine while the UK and France collaborate to support Ukraine in achieving a truce.

Rubio’s participation will also involve dialogues with his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Barrot, focusing on Ukraine, a prospective nuclear deal with Iran, and Middle Eastern affairs. This meeting follows a series of criticisms and diplomatic tensions as U.S. President Trump’s administration confronts both Ukraine’s government and Iranian officials over nuclear concerns.

Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has expressed hope that Trump’s administration recognizes Russia’s manipulation following its recent missile strikes. Concurrently, Witkoff intends to continue the dialogue with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Rome, building on previous discussions in Oman, although a deal remains elusive.

Trump has voiced willingness to take military action against Iran if diplomatic efforts fail, having intensified sanctions following the dissolution of the 2015 nuclear agreement. Notably, the U.S. did not inform European partners about recent nuclear negotiations in Oman, raising concerns about coordination moving forward amid tensions over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

The upcoming Paris talks represent a crucial moment for dialogue on the intertwined issues of the Ukraine war and Iran’s nuclear program. With ongoing tensions and U.S. military threats looming, the coordination between the U.S. and European officials could shape future diplomatic efforts in both regions. The focus will be on seeking a truce in Ukraine and addressing potential military action regarding Iran if negotiations do not progress.
