Tesla has launched a rear-wheel-drive version of the Cybertruck in Saudi Arabia, featuring a 350-mile range and reduced weight. This entry-level model aims to attract customers in the Middle East amid declining global sales. While it performs slightly slower than the all-wheel-drive version, its lower price point is anticipated to enhance market appeal. Tesla also plans to open several showrooms in the region.

Tesla has recently launched a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version of the Cybertruck in Saudi Arabia, coinciding with a global sales decline. This entry-level trim, which includes a notable 350-mile range, is expected to attract new customers in the Middle Eastern market while the company struggles in the U.S., China, and Europe.

The Long Range RWD Cybertruck weighs 515 pounds less than its all-wheel-drive (AWD) counterpart and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.6 seconds. Although this is slower than the AWD model, it shares a similar top speed of 112 mph. Its towing capacity is reduced to 7,500 pounds, a drop of 3,500 pounds compared to the AWD version.

While the specific pricing for the new Cybertruck model remains undisclosed, it is anticipated to be lower than the AWD variant. Tesla has indicated plans to make this model available in the U.S. later this year. In tandem with the Cybertruck launch, three new showrooms will open in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam on April 11, 2024.

Tesla’s introduction of the RWD Cybertruck in Saudi Arabia signals a strategic move to access new markets amidst declining sales in key regions. Although this model offers a lighter weight and improved range, it faces stiff competition from established players in the region. The effectiveness of Tesla’s expansion in the Middle East in reversing its broader sales challenges remains uncertain, particularly as it continues to confront significant competition and shifting market dynamics.
