Russia’s Continued Aggression Against Ukraine Amid Ceasefire Proposal

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister reported that Russia launched nearly 70 missiles and over 2,200 drones in the past month despite a US-backed ceasefire. This escalation demonstrates Moscow’s refusal to engage in true peace negotiations, underscoring the need for increased international pressure to address Russia’s military actions.
In a recent statement, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported that despite a supposed ceasefire proposed by the US, Russia has launched nearly 70 missiles and more than 2,200 Shahed drones against Ukraine within the last month. Ukraine accepted the ceasefire on March 11, but Russia has escalated its military aggression instead of complying.
During the one-month period from March 11 to April 11, Russia conducted significant attacks, including the use of guided aerial bombs totaling over 6,000. Sybiha emphasized that Moscow is the main impediment to peace, asserting that global powers must enhance pressure on Russia to compel it to begin earnest negotiations for peace.
The attacks included a tragic missile strike on Kryvyi Rih on April 4, claiming 20 lives, including nine minors, and injuring over 60 individuals. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the world’s lack of action, expressing that Russia’s continued aggression reveals its true intentions to perpetrate terror as long as it is tolerated.
French President Emmanuel Macron has urged for an immediate ceasefire, arguing that Russia’s ongoing attacks are a mockery of peace initiatives. Similarly, US President Trump called on Russia to halt its offensive, while the Kremlin reiterated that President Putin supports ceasefire negotiations pending resolution of certain issues. Trump’s dissatisfaction with Russia’s escalation of attacks was also noted on April 8.
The situation highlights the ongoing conflict in Ukraine where, despite proposed ceasefires, Russia continues its military actions, undermining peace efforts. Both domestic and international leaders express discontent with the recent developments, stressing the need for immediate global action against Russia’s aggressions to restore peace in the region.
