Nissan Halts New U.S. Orders for Infiniti SUVs Due to Tariffs

Nissan will no longer accept U.S. orders for the Infiniti QX50 and QX55 due to U.S. tariffs imposed by Trump. The company will continue two shifts for the Rogue SUV at its Smyrna, Tennessee plant, reversing a previous plan to reduce production shifts.
Nissan has announced that it will cease taking new orders for the Infiniti QX50 and QX55 SUVs from the United States. This decision follows the imposition of auto tariffs by former U.S. President Donald Trump and reflects a significant reduction in production operations at Nissan’s joint venture plant in Mexico, known as the Cooperation Manufacturing Plant Aguascalientes (COMPAS), which is partnered with Mercedes-Benz.
Additionally, Nissan has decided to maintain two production shifts at its Smyrna, Tennessee plant for the Rogue SUV. This statement comes as a reversal from its earlier plan announced in January, which intended to reduce production by ending one shift this month.
This shift in Nissan’s production strategy highlights the automaker’s response to tariff impacts and aims to adjust its operational capacity in U.S. markets accordingly.
Nissan’s decision to halt new U.S. orders for certain Infiniti SUVs marks a significant operational adjustment in response to U.S. tariffs. Furthermore, maintaining two production shifts for the Rogue SUV at the Smyrna plant indicates Nissan’s efforts to adapt its manufacturing strategy under changing economic conditions.
