The Shawwal moon is expected to be visible on March 29 in Saudi Arabia according to local astronomers, while Pakistan’s SUPARCO predicts it will only be seen on March 30. This could result in Eidul Fitr celebrations on March 31 in both regions.

Saudi astronomers have indicated that the Shawwal moon may be seen on Saturday evening, March 29, signaling the conclusion of Ramadan and the start of Eidul Fitr. The moon is projected to be born at 2 PM local time, remaining visible for approximately eight minutes after sunset in certain areas of Saudi Arabia.

In contrast, Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) holds a different opinion. According to their analysis, the moon’s age at sunset in Makkah will only be five hours, which is insufficient for clear visibility. SUPARCO anticipates that the crescent will be visible in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern nations on Sunday, March 30.

If SUPARCO’s prediction is accurate, it is likely that both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will observe Eidul Fitr on Monday, March 31. To confirm the sighting of the Shawwal crescent, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Pakistan will meet on Sunday, March 30, alongside regional committees.

In summary, Saudi astronomers expect to see the Shawwal crescent on March 29, while SUPARCO suggests visibility may only occur on March 30. This discrepancy may lead to Eidul Fitr celebrations occurring on March 31 in both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Official announcements regarding moon sightings are anticipated from relevant committees.
