Umerov reported that their talks were productive, focusing primarily on energy matters. He emphasized that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy aims to achieve a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
The Kremlin noted that the negotiations will concentrate on the “Black Sea Initiative” and its renewal, including aspects like navigation safety. This initiative, established in July 2022, allowed Ukraine to export critical goods from ports like Odesa, but was terminated by Russia in July 2023.
Recently, both Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of violating agreements related to energy infrastructure, further complicating peace efforts. The White House stated that moving towards peace requires an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as initiating discussions on a maritime ceasefire.
