The Murder of Saurabh Rajput: A Case of Deception and Confession

Muskaan Rastogi and her lover, Sahil Shukla, murdered her husband, Saurabh Rajput, and attempted to dispose of the body upon returning from vacation. Their plan was foiled by the drum’s weight, which led to their capture. They have since been arrested and are in judicial custody, revealing a web of personal conflicts and strained relationships within the family.
Muskaan Rastogi and her lover, Sahil Shukla, were implicated in the murder of Muskaan’s husband, Saurabh Rajput. After fatally stabbing Saurabh on March 3, they dismembered his body into 15 pieces, which they placed in a plastic drum filled with wet cement. Their plan to dispose of the drum upon returning from a two-week vacation in Himachal Pradesh failed due to the drum’s weight, leading to their eventual capture.
Investigation revealed that Muskaan and Sahil appeared carefree in videos recorded during their trip, just days post-murder. Upon returning on March 17, they sought assistance from laborers to move the heavy drum. When the laborers struggled and the drum’s lid came off, the smell of decaying flesh raised their suspicions, causing them to leave.
In a state of panic, Muskaan fled to her parents’ home. Initially, she attempted to shift the blame onto Saurabh’s sister and brother-in-law but eventually confessed to her parents about the murder. They subsequently took her to the police, leading to her and Sahil’s arrest, where they are now held in judicial custody.
A neighbor noted that Sahil frequently visited Muskaan, describing her as well-behaved and expressing disbelief over the crime. Saurabh, a Merchant Navy officer, was murdered while visiting for his daughter’s birthday. Muskaan’s relationship with Saurabh’s family had always been strained, particularly after he discovered her affair with Sahil in 2019.
Muskaan’s parents contend that the murder was motivated by fear Saurabh would end their drug use. They assert that Saurabh always supported Muskaan and deserved justice. In contrast, Saurabh’s family claims that Muskaan was primarily interested in his financial resources, expressing a long-standing dislike for her.
The case involving Muskaan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla highlights the complexities of personal relationships compounded by crime. The couple’s misguided attempt to cover up a heinous crime unraveled due to the unexpected weight of the evidence. Their eventual confession brought forth familial tensions and revealed contentious relationships, culminating in legal repercussions. The swift police intervention reflects the importance of community awareness and vigilance in solving such crimes.
