Ahead of scheduled meetings between Russian and Ukrainian representatives, Umerov highlighted Ukraine’s commitment to achieving a “just peace” and reinforcing national security. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff expressed cautious optimism, suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be open to peace discussions, while emphasizing the importance of establishing common ground.
As diplomatic engagements proceed, the situation in Ukraine remains tense, with recent Russian drone strikes leading to casualties, including a five-year-old child. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged Western allies to increase pressure on Moscow to halt its attacks, while also addressing the increasing frequency and intensity of such strikes.
