On Saturday afternoon, Surabhi Raj, the director of Asia Hospital in Patna, was tragically shot multiple times in her office cabin, leading to her death shortly after. Hospital staff discovered her unresponsive in a pool of blood, prompting immediate transportation to AIIMS, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities have yet to identify the shooter or establish a motive for the deadly assault. A police officer stated, “The police learnt about the incident at around 4.30pm. A thorough probe is underway.” Notably, five bullet shell casings were found at the scene of the crime.
Eyewitnesses, including trainees present during the attack, reported that a training session by two external doctors was wrapping up when they heard unusual noises. One trainee recalled, “We were giggling and having fun when we got conscious of the noise and went to check if anyone was sitting in the next room. We found ma’am (Surabhi) lying in a pool of blood.” Another trainee noted that the attack was silent, as no gunshots were heard.
In response to the incident, a comprehensive investigation has been initiated, involving a police team led by the Superintendent of Police (City), as well as forensic experts and a dog squad. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to gather critical evidence.
