Odesa was hit by a severe Russian drone attack following U.S. President Trump’s hopeful remarks about peace talks. Negotiations between the U.S. and Russia are set for Monday in Saudi Arabia, while Zelensky warns against crippling demands from Russia. Recent assaults have led to ongoing injuries and destruction, with Ukraine responding to strikes deep within Russian territory. Amid these tensions, Western leaders express support for Ukraine’s sovereignty in negotiations.

On Thursday night, the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa faced a devastating drone attack, leading to significant destruction and casualties. This assault occurred shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope for peace, indicating ongoing talks to resolve the conflict. Local officials reported injuries to at least three civilians, including a child, from the attacks on civilian areas such as a residential building and a shopping center.

Trump’s recent discussions with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky focused on exploring a potential ceasefire agreement. A new round of negotiations is scheduled for Monday in Saudi Arabia, with both Russia and Ukraine planning to participate. Zelensky cautioned Putin against making unnecessary demands that could prolong hostilities.

Amid escalating tensions, additional Russian attacks were reported near Zaporizhzhia, injuring at least five individuals. In the Kirovohrad region, approximately 200 drones caused injuries to ten, including four children, and inflicted damage to various properties and infrastructure.

In response to Russia’s increased drone strikes, Ukrainians retaliated by targeting a military airfield within Russia, resulting in significant explosions. President Zelensky stated that this action was a direct response to the ongoing missile attacks from that location.

Zelensky affirmed Ukraine’s conditional agreement to a ceasefire, stating they would wait for Russia to reciprocate. He expressed readiness to draw up lists of civilian infrastructure to include in future agreements. Meanwhile, negotiations have stalled over Russia’s demands, which include halting foreign military aid to Ukraine.

European leaders continue to support Ukraine, urging a concerted effort to strengthen Ukraine’s position in negotiations. The upcoming meetings in Riyadh aim to clarify the terms of the ongoing discussions, although high-level U.S. officials will not be present in these negotiations.

The situation in Ukraine remains complex as major military engagements continue alongside diplomatic efforts to establish a ceasefire. Odesa’s recent attack underscores the urgent need for effective negotiations, highlighted by President Trump’s optimistic tone. Despite Zelensky’s calls for peace, Russia’s conditions pose significant obstacles, contributing to a precarious balance between war and diplomacy. The outcome of the upcoming talks will significantly influence the region’s stability.
