Kremlin Accuses Ukraine of Undermining US-Russian Peace Efforts

The Kremlin accused Ukraine of trying to undermine US-Russian peace efforts following Putin’s agreement with Trump for a 30-day halt to strikes on energy infrastructure. Tensions escalated with drone attacks from both sides, and the Kremlin emphasized that agreements were mischaracterized in US reports. Discussions between Trump and Putin included military aid, revealing sensitive topics in diplomatic relations.
On Wednesday, the Kremlin accused Ukraine of undermining US-Russian peace efforts aimed at ending hostilities in Ukraine. Following a call between President Vladimir Putin and former President Donald Trump, Putin announced a temporary 30-day pause in strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. However, despite this agreement, Kyiv allegedly attempted to target Russian energy facilities.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted, “Unfortunately, so far see there has been no reciprocity on the part of the Kyiv regime. There were attempts to strike our energy infrastructure,” emphasizing that such actions contradict mutual efforts between Russia and the US. Peskov claimed Putin had commanded an immediate cessation of attacks on Ukrainian energy supplies.
After the call, both Russia and Ukraine engaged in drone attacks against each other, highlighting ongoing conflict despite diplomatic efforts. The Kremlin clarified that Putin’s commitment only applied to halting strikes on energy infrastructure, not all types of military engagements, which differed from U.S. reports.
Kyiv had recently agreed to an unconditional ceasefire with Russia, signaling its willingness to negotiate. The Kremlin remarked that the conversation between Putin and Trump, lasting around two hours, included discussions on military aid to Ukraine, which Peskov described as a sensitive topic that should remain private.
Peskov expressed confidence in the evolving relationship between Putin and Trump, stating that both leaders are inclined to foster improved relations after more than three years of conflict.
The article highlights tensions between Russia and Ukraine amid efforts to reach a peace agreement facilitated by US involvement. Despite a pause agreed upon by Putin and Trump regarding strikes on energy infrastructure, accusations arose from Moscow blaming Kyiv for undermining these efforts. With both sides still engaging in hostilities, the complexity of the geopolitical situation remains apparent as discussions continue.
