NDLEA Intercepts Cocaine and Tramadol Shipments, Arrests Two Traffickers

The NDLEA has thwarted drug trafficking attempts from Nigeria to several countries, arresting two suspects and seizing a variety of illicit drugs including cocaine and tramadol. The agency reported clever concealment methods used by the traffickers and reaffirmed its commitment to drug abuse awareness campaigns.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully disrupted efforts by drug trafficking organizations to smuggle illegal narcotics from Nigeria to various countries, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates. NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi reported that the drugs seized included cocaine, tramadol, skunk, and molly, with plans to ship these via logistics companies from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
Babafemi detailed that the seized drugs were cleverly hidden in items such as prayer beads, board games, and female clothing. Two suspects linked to the failed attempts have been arrested; one, a 43-year-old businesswoman, was caught while attempting to board a flight to Italy on March 8, with 190 parcels of tramadol and cannabis found in her luggage. She allegedly intended to sell the drugs in Italy.
On March 11, a second suspect, aged 60, tried to ship a package disguised as clothing, but NDLEA officers discovered 400 grams of skunk concealed in the garments intended for New York. Additionally, from March 10 to March 12, NDLEA seized 230 grams of cocaine hidden in various items destined for Saudi Arabia, Poland, and the UAE, including prayer beads and handmade shoes.
Despite these enforcement actions, NDLEA continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaigns across the country, promoting awareness on drug-related issues. These efforts underscore the agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria.
The NDLEA has successfully intercepted significant drug shipments intended for international markets while detaining associated suspects. Continued enforcement and awareness campaigns highlight the agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and promoting public health in Nigeria. This proactive approach aims to deter drug-related crimes and support community safety.
