This beach is where she was last seen over a week ago. Their placement suggests she might have left them behind prior to entering the ocean wearing a brown bikini.
Konanki was reported missing on March 6 after her friends, with whom she traveled, noted her absence around 4 PM. Surveillance footage captures her approaching the beach accompanied by her five friends, who later returned to their hotel, leaving Konanki behind with Joshua Riibe, a 22-year-old senior from St. Cloud State University, who has now become a person of interest in the case.
Video evidence from the Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana shows Konanki walking beside Riibe, along with other friends, prior to her disappearance. At the time, she wore a white T-shirt, shorts, and had her hair in a ponytail. The Dominican police confirmed that Riibe was the last individual seen with her before she went missing.
In a statement, Riibe’s parents expressed their desire for Konanki to be found quickly. Initially, authorities considered drowning as the cause for her absence; however, her father has called for investigations into potential abduction, based on the unusual circumstances of her disappearance, including her phone and wallet remaining with friends.
Search efforts are underway, employing drones and AI-assisted surveillance methods over the ocean. Interpol has issued a ‘yellow notice’ regarding Konanki’s case. The University of Pittsburgh is collaborating with multiple federal entities, including the FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security, to aid in the investigation. Dominican President Luis Abinader reported that Riibe mentioned experiencing a wave while on the beach, but there are currently no indicators of violence or blood at the site.
