In Vadodara, Rakshit Chaurasia, a 20-year-old law student, was involved in a car accident that killed a woman and injured four others. The driver, 20-year-old Rakshit Chaurasia, allegedly under the influence, was captured on video behaving incoherently after the crash, exclaiming “Another round” and “Om Namah Shivay.” Hemaliben Patel, who was shopping for Holi colors, was killed instantly in the accident.

Rakshit Chaurasia is a law student at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, originally from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. His family operates a tap manufacturing business, and he resides in a Paying Guest accommodation in Vadodara. Chaurasia began his five-year law course at the university in 2021 and was reportedly returning from a Holi celebration with friends when the incident occurred.

Chaurasia recounts the event, stating he was approaching a right turn when he lost control of his vehicle, claiming to have been driving at 50-60 km/h, although police suspect he was speeding. The car belonged to his friend Meet Chauhan, who was present in the car at the time of the accident. Following the incident, Chaurasia initially denied consuming alcohol but later acknowledged he had taken bhaang, a cannabis derivative.

Taking responsibility for his actions, Chaurasia expressed remorse for the accident, stating, “I was told that one woman has died and a few have sustained injuries. I want to meet the family of the victims; it is my fault and whatever they want should happen.” Police are currently pursuing further investigations into the incident and the actions of Chaurasia and his friend.
