On Friday, a violent incident occurred at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, where an unidentified man attacked devotees with a rod, resulting in five injuries. Among the injured, a Sikh youth from Bathinda is reported to be in critical condition and is currently receiving treatment at the emergency wing of the Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research.
Authorities have arrested the attacker along with an accomplice. A police spokesperson noted that the second suspect assisted in conducting reconnaissance prior to the attack. The incident took place near the community kitchen of the temple, specifically inside the historic Guru Ram Das inn, alarming numerous devotees present.
According to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), the assailant unexpectedly brandished a rod and began attacking worshippers. Investigative efforts are ongoing, and details about the perpetrator remain limited.
Reports suggest the assailant, identified as Zulfan from Haryana, initially confronted SGPC staff who questioned his suspicious behavior. After being commanded to leave, he returned with an iron rod, assaulting both staff and devotees. Four individuals, including two SGPC aides, sustained injuries during this attack. Zulfan himself was also wounded and remains in police custody as investigations continue into the motive behind the attack.
