Tragic Death in Rajasthan Highlights Safety Concerns During Holi Celebrations

In Rajasthan’s Dausa district, a tragic incident occurred where a 25-year-old man named Hansraj was allegedly strangled to death for refusing to have Holi colors applied to him. Hansraj was preparing for competitive exams at a local library when three individuals—Ashok, Bablu, and Kaluram—approached him for the color application. Despite his refusal, they responded with violence, which ultimately led to his death.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dinesh Agarwal, after Hansraj declined their advances, he was subjected to physical assault, including being kicked and beaten with belts. The situation escalated when one of the accused strangled Hansraj. Following this incident, locals and Hansraj’s family protested, blocking a national highway until 1 AM, demanding justice.
The protesters requested compensation of ₹50 lakh for Hansraj’s family, a government job for a family member, and the swift arrest of the three accused. After police intervened and provided assurances, the protest concluded with the removal of Hansraj’s body from the roadway.
In a different incident during Holi celebrations in Thane, Maharashtra, a 17-year-old boy was harmed after a dispute over water balloons escalated. A nearby man, angered by a balloon thrown by children, attacked one of the boys with a sharp object. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation but have not yet made any arrests.
