Japan Faces Peak Pollen Season: Millions Struggle with Allergies

Japan’s pollen season is at its peak in cities like Tokyo, causing widespread allergy symptoms. While weather changes may briefly lower pollen counts, cedar pollen is expected to remain high until mid-March, before cypress pollen increases.

Japan’s pollen season is currently reaching its peak, primarily impacting cities like Tokyo, where millions are facing symptoms such as itchy eyes, runny noses, and sneezing fits. Despite a forecast of rain and turbulent weather for the upcoming weekend, which may temporarily reduce pollen levels, this relief is expected to be short-lived.

Cedar pollen levels are predicted to remain high until mid-March, affecting regions such as Takamatsu, Osaka, Nagoya, and Kanazawa. Following this peak period, cypress pollen is anticipated to emerge.

Yoshie Nakamura, a representative from Weathernews, stated that “Pollen is expected to spread extensively over the next couple of days, reaching extreme levels in Tokyo.”

As pollen season peaks in Japan, millions are grappling with allergy symptoms. Temporary weather relief may not provide a lasting solution, as cedar pollen remains high until mid-March, followed by cypress pollen. Awareness of these conditions is essential for those affected.
