In Chennai, a doctor, Dr. Balamurugan, along with his family, tragically died by suicide after reportedly incurring financial losses totaling Rs 5 crore. The deceased included his wife, Sumathi, a lawyer, and their two teenage sons, Dasvanth (17) and Lingesh (15). The police found their bodies at their Anna Nagar West residence after the family’s driver raised the alarm due to a lack of response from them.

The driver discovered the situation when he arrived in the morning. Upon no response, he called neighbors who then saw the bodies through the windows. The police subsequently arrived and arranged for transportation of the bodies to Kilpauk Medical College for post-mortem analysis. Dr. Balamurugan was known to own multiple ultrasound diagnostic centers in Chennai but was facing significant debt.

Dasvanth, the elder son, was preparing for his Class XII board exams and the NEET medical entrance examination, while Lingesh was in his Class X. Police have stated, “We suspect they killed themselves. They were in debt. We are investigating. No formal complaint received from anyone so far.” The investigation will also include reviewing the financial records of Dr. Balamurugan’s business for any external pressures.
