Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia after U.S. discussions in Saudi Arabia, with the U.S. lifting a freeze on military aid and intelligence sharing. On Tuesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the U.S. and Ukraine announced Kyiv’s readiness to accept a 30-day ceasefire with Russia. Following extensive negotiations, Washington committed to lifting a freeze on military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, previously imposed due to tensions after a White House meeting between President Zelenskyy and Mr. Trump.
The joint statement detailed that this interim ceasefire could be extended by mutual agreement from both parties, with Russia’s cooperation emphasized as crucial for achieving peace. Secretary of State Marco Rubio led the U.S. delegation during the discussions, which lasted over eight hours.
The U.S. indicated that it would resume security assistance to Ukraine, a crucial support mechanism that had been paused, putting Kyiv at a disadvantage amid ongoing conflict since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. The response from Russia regarding the ceasefire remains uncertain, however, plans for continued dialogue were indicated.
