A 24-year-old tourist, Joshua Steven Ribe from Iowa, was the last person to see Sudiksha Konanki, a missing 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student from Virginia. After a night of partying at the Riu Republica Resort, Ribe claimed that he passed out on the beach and discovered Ms. Konanki gone upon awakening. Her family is now concerned for her safety, fearing she may have been kidnapped.

Ms. Konanki was on vacation with friends at the resort when she went missing. Surveillance footage confirmed the group was at the resort disco until 3 am and reached the beach around 4 am. By 5:50 am, her friends left her alone with Ribe, making him the last known person to see her alive.

Ribe has provided three different accounts of the events that transpired: he either vomited from the waves and then checked on Konanki, last saw her in knee-deep water before losing consciousness, or saw her walking on the beach before falling asleep. Despite the inconsistencies in his statements, police have not named him as a suspect but confirmed his cooperation with investigators.

Konanki’s friends waited nearly 12 hours before reporting her missing, which raised concerns about the timeline. A vast search operation is currently underway, employing drones, helicopters, boats, scuba divers, and all-terrain vehicles. Officials from the Dominican Republic believe that the chances of finding her alive are low, speculating that she may have drowned after entering the ocean.

Items belonging to Ms. Konanki were discovered on a beach chaise lounge, prompting her father to call for an expanded investigation into her disappearance, suspecting possible kidnapping. He noted the unusual circumstances surrounding her missing belongings: her mobile phone and wallet were not with her on the beach.

Family friend Ramprakash Krishnamanaidu voiced concerns, questioning where Ms. Konanki could be if she was not in the water, the resorts, or hospitals. Multiple individuals, including her friends and other guests, are now being interrogated by the Dominican National Police, who are also examining surveillance footage from nearby areas.

In addition, international agencies such as the FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security Investigations are aiding in the investigation, with diplomatic assistance from the Indian Embassy in the Dominican Republic. The situation continues to evolve as authorities seek further information.
