On Monday, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi called for a discussion in the Lok Sabha regarding voter lists, an issue raised by multiple political parties. During Zero Hour, he emphasized that the entire opposition seeks to address concerns regarding these lists, stating, “We accept your remarks that the government does not make voter lists. But we demand a discussion on the issue.”

Gandhi highlighted that concerns about the voter lists are prevalent nationwide, with opposition parties unifying their voices across states, including Maharashtra. This demand for dialogue comes amidst rising questions about the accuracy and integrity of the current voter registration.

Additionally, Saugata Roy of the Trinamool Congress noted problems in the voter lists, particularly mentioning that discrepancies have been found in West Bengal. He pointed out that voters sharing the same EPIC numbers were discovered in Murshidabad and Burdwan and highlighted issues in Haryana as well.

Roy’s comments included a call for a complete revision of the voter lists, especially with upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam. He condemned the inflated voter lists reported in Maharashtra and stressed that the Election Commission needs to provide clarity on these mistakes.

A Trinamool delegation plans to meet the newly-appointed chief election commissioner to address these concerns regarding the voter lists, seeking necessary actions ahead of the elections next year.
