A tragic incident occurred near Hampi, Karnataka, where a 27-year-old female Israeli tourist and her 29-year-old male companion fell victim to a violent ambush on Thursday night. Reports indicate that while stargazing with three male friends, the group was confronted by three assailants who later raped the woman and killed her friend by throwing him into a river. The man’s body was recovered on Saturday morning after two members of the group managed to escape.

At the time of the attack, the group was approached by the attackers, who posed as individuals in need of directions to a petrol station. When the tourists refused to give them money, the situation escalated into violence. Following the assault on the woman, the attackers also stole their cash and mobile phones, exacerbating the traumatic experience for the victims.

Senior police official Lokesh Kumar provided an overview of the incident, confirming that the group had gone out for star-gazing after staying at a local homestay. He stated that an altercation began when the attackers demanded money beyond what the tourists were willing to provide. Consequently, two men from the group were forced into the river during this confrontation.

Authorities have initiated an investigation and formed six teams to locate the culprits. They have registered the case and are pursuing leads to ensure justice is served, while the foreign ministry is yet to issue an official response regarding the incident.
