Yoshiyuki Sakai, 46, was arrested in Kawasaki for the alleged murder of Toshiaki Seino in 2003, whose body was discovered in 2010. Seino’s family released a statement seeking the truth in the case as investigations continue.

On Thursday, a man in his 40s was arrested in Kawasaki on suspicion of murdering Toshiaki Seino in 2003. The arrested individual, Yoshiyuki Sakai, 46, is alleged to have committed the crime around October 31, 2003, when Seino was 26 years old. Police sources indicate Sakai has denied the allegations made against him.

Sakai and Seino were previously coworkers at an alcoholic beverage store, where Sakai resigned a few months prior to Seino’s disappearance. Seino was last seen working until the day before he went missing, after which his father reported him as missing to the authorities.

In April 2010, during a routine patrol, a police officer discovered a skeletonized body in a bamboo forest, identified as Seino. The remains exhibited multiple knife scars, and forensic analysis suggested the cause of death was significant bleeding or damage to internal organs, prompting an active murder investigation. Sakai was identified as a suspect through an examination of Seino’s personal contacts.

In a statement released through their lawyer, Seino’s family expressed, “We would like to quietly wait for the truth to come out.” This case marks a significant development in the long-standing investigation into Seino’s disappearance and alleged murder.

The arrest of Yoshiyuki Sakai highlights a critical breakthrough in a cold case involving the 2003 murder of Toshiaki Seino, whose remains were found in 2010. As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on uncovering the truth behind this tragic event and seeking justice for Seino’s family.
