A teenage boy was apprehended on Sunday in Maharashtra’s Palghar district for allegedly murdering his 6-year-old cousin, motivated by jealousy. According to senior police officials, he was inspired by a Hindi film that features a serial killer.
The girl’s remains were discovered on a hillock in Sriram Nagar around 4:30 AM, following her mysterious disappearance the previous evening. Family members reported her absence, leading to police involvement.
CCTV footage captured the suspect, aged 13, escorting the girl. Initially, he attempted to mislead investigators but eventually admitted to the crime. Senior Inspector Jitendra Vankute provided details of the case, asserting that the boy strangled the girl before brutally attacking her face with a stone, inspired by the film “Raman Raghav.”
A murder case has been initiated under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with further investigations ongoing, as stated by Inspector Vankute.
This tragic incident underscores the potential influence of media on impressionable individuals, especially youth. The police are continuing their investigation into the details surrounding this case, which raises concerns about juvenile behavior and the impact of violent films on young minds.
