The Nagano Prefectural government has enlisted the support of the Ground Self-Defense Force for disaster relief upon Ueda’s request. Firefighters are currently stationed about 14 kilometers from Ueda’s city center, prioritizing the protection of residential areas from the advancing flames. There is a temporary suspension of firefighting efforts at sunset, slated to resume on Saturday morning, including aerial support from the Self-Defense Force.
Another fire has ignited in Otsuki, Yamanashi Prefecture, since Wednesday, with ongoing spread observed as of Friday. This fire is roughly two kilometers south of JR Saruhashi Station and started when a caretaker was burning debris, which subsequently spread to adjacent forest land. The local government has established a community center for residents seeking shelter, although no evacuations have occurred thus far.
Due to the prevailing dry conditions, weather advisories have been issued across Yamanashi Prefecture and Ueda. Officials and law enforcement are urging caution among residents regarding any activities involving open flames to prevent further fire incidents.
The occurrences of multiple forest fires in Japan highlight the urgency of disaster response measures.
